McAllen, TEXAS – For small business owners, manufacturers, and suppliers interested in doing business with the government or corporate America, your opportunity is near. As many as 500 government agencies, corporations, small business owners, purchasing agents, procurement decision makers, vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers are expected to attend the 2008 South Texas Border Business Contracting Expo (STBBCE), which is scheduled for October 16-17 in McAllen, Texas.
The U.S. government is the world’s largest buyer of products and services, spending more than $200 billion a year. These products and services can range from commercial vehicles to landscaping services to office supplies. To meet contracting goals, the government is expected to purchase from small businesses, women-owned businesses, and service disabled veteran-owned businesses. This expo will give many South Texas businesses an opportunity to vie for these contracts as well as work with large corporations.
The STBBCE is a two-day event hosted by the McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC) and the STBBCE planning committee in conjunction with U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) and U.S. Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15). The second annual event kicks off on Thursday, October 16 with a welcome reception at the Tower Club. On Friday, October 17, a keynote presenter will start the morning off.
Keynote speakers include U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar and U.S. Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (Tentative), Small Business Administration Deputy Administrator Jovita Carranza, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Director of Business Programs Jeanette L. Brown, and Wal-Mart Vice President/Regional General Manager Gisel Ruiz.
Exhibitors include Boeing Company, Department of Homeland Security, Texas Lottery Commission, NASA Johnson Space Center, HEB, Skanska and UT System Office to name a few.
The STBBCE will offer networking opportunities for small business owners, manufacturing leaders and government (state, local, and federal) representatives. Also included will be a large exhibit area and several training sessions in a variety of topics, such as How to do Business with the State, Life After HUB Certification, Responding to a Proposal, and Women Business Enterprise Certification. Round Table discussion topics include, Corporate America, Maquila Industry, and Working with the Government.
